Library

The Crisp Academy Library is fully automated with three computers that are networked and Internet accessible.  Children in the K-4 through 4th grade attend library classes weekly.  There are books for all ages and resource materials for teachers.

Students and teachers can join the Birthday Club by donating $20.00.  Through this donation a book is placed in the library in honor of someone's birthday.

In 2002 the Crisp Academy Library was the recipient of a 2,000 book donation with bookshelves from Coca-Cola.

The library is the center of learning for all ages.

Curriculum

The curriculum at Crisp Academy places major emphasis on scholastic attainment and character development.

Primary Grades:  The A Beka Program curriculum with an emphasis on early reading and other academic skills begins in kindergarten (3, 4, and 5K).  The curriculum is expanded in grades one through four in the areas of language arts, science, social studies, and mathematics.  Music, art, elementary Spanish, and P.E. are included as well

Middle School:  Grades five through eight are departmentalized.  The A Beka Program is continued to some degree.  The academic concepts mastered by grade eight carry over into high school.

High School:  The college preparatory curriculum meets the Carnegie unit requirements for entrance into the University System of Georgia colleges and universities.  The curriculum also includes additional courses in advanced math, social studies, science, and Spanish.  A course of AP World Literature is offered as well as courses in business and computer technology.  A technical track curriculum is available, with the approval of the parents, counselor, and Headmaster, for students who need this option.

Grading Scale

A 90~100
B 80~89
C 73~79
D 70~72
F Below 70

Graduation Requirements

Crisp Academy requires the satisfactory completion of 22 units, 19 of which must be academic.  In addition to the 16 units required by the University System of Georgia, the following courses are required: world geography, word processing, computer applications, and one unit of health/P.E.

College Placement

Ninety-five percent of Crisp Academy graduates attend college.  Students have been accepted at major colleges and universities in and out of state.

Advanced Placement

Crisp Academy offers an AP course in World Literature.  College credit is received if the student scores a 3 or above on the AP exam administered in May.

Accelerated Reader

This is a motivational program to promote reading and improve comprehension and vocabulary skills.  Crisp Academy uses this program in the primary and middle grades.  Students read independently and test in their classrooms.  Each grade sets a goal for students to reach every 9 weeks.  Students earn AR points for each question they answer correctly on the AR tests.  The number of points students earn each 9 weeks does affect their reading grade.  An added benefit is improved scores on standardized tests.

Summer Reading Program

Crisp Academy has a required reading program for students entering grades 8 through 12.  The purpose of this program is to enhance and improve student reading skills, as these skills are essential for success in college.  Also, a student's ability to read well is normally reflected in higher test scores and improved writing skills.  Students are tested on the books during the first few days of school.

Cat Tale Days

Cat Tale Days is a week long summer enrichment camp for students in K-3 through grade 6.  The camp is conducted on the Academy campus and includes indoor and outdoor activities.  These activities focus on subject areas such as music, sports, science, arts, and adventure.
